Strengthening European Traditional Sports

Building a network to strengthen European traditional sports and games

There is a rich variety of traditional sports and games in Europe, most of them are practised regionally. Organisations of traditional sports and games contribute to the cultural and intangible heritage of Europe. Traditional sports and games are a symbol  of cultural diversity of our societies, and efficient means to convey values of: solidarity, diversity, inclusiveness and cultural awareness (European Commission, call for proposal 2013).

In order to safeguard and promote this  cultural heritage, it’s important to optimise and intensify the existing European Network of traditional sports and games. In particular in Eastern and Northern Europe, two regions that are currently underrepresented in the existing European network (ETSGA).

The project ‘Strengthening European Traditional Sports and games’ aims to achieve these goals.
